Sometimes a lens can be damaged in a fall beyond repair. Fix #2: If the camera's batteries ran down completely while its lens was still open, the camera may show a lens error or not start properly when new batteries are installed. I guess it's because I have a silicone covering for the camera that while it protects it from scratches, it doesn't help with the dust particles. now everytine i start the camera it flashes lens error and turns of my camera. have a peek here

It would always shut back off. it broke at the end of a linkin park concert, but im so happy i got fantastic pics off the memory card :)guess i better get a new camera now lol wahoooooo!!! I did that one time and the lens error was gone!
Also it make some rattling noise when i press the on/off button or sometimes does it by itself.

the opening/closing mechanism will work and open but then after the photo lens thing comes out, it looks around and goes back inside the camera. the motor is loud though, i then polished and oiled the zoom lens cases. If you do not feel comfortable trying ... My only regret is that I had no camera to record the process!
